TWO TWO FOUR PADILLA

TWO TWO FOUR PADILLA

We found two apartments in Calle Padilla, a street in the Eixample neighbourhood very close to the famous Sagrada Familia. It’s an area that is moving onto the radar of young families and first homebuyers for its convenience and quality of local schools, shopping and services.

The apartments are of equal dimensions (75 square meters) but on different floors of the same building – the first and 5th. The lower apartment has a rear terrace that looks out onto a typical Barcelonese ‘pati interior’, while the one of the upper floor features a balcony with views of the bulbous spires of Gaudí’s iconic church.

Arquitectura G made radical changes to the formulaic, late-20th century character of the apartments, both aesthetically and functionally. Their original layout consisted of a ‘chain’ of tiny rooms, lacking in both light and ventilation. A boldly–coloured and formed central nucleus was created for the bathrooms and storage areas. Around these, a flexible programme using sliding doors allows the owner to adapt the home to their needs (both present and future). They can choose between having one large bedroom, study and lounge room; two bedrooms, study and lounge room or three bedrooms and a lounge room.
